This was topical when I posted it originally and what do you know, it’s still topical.
We’re a nation of immigrants, it is to our credit when we remember that. And yes, we’re even a nation of illegal immigrants, almost every American with ancestors who were here a hundred and fifty years ago has some ancestors who came without the permission of the then current residents. Some of my ancestors could have met the second boat load of Pilgrims and some of them were on that boat, uninvited permanent visitors.
Scapegoating any group does nothing to solve underlying problems. Immigration and border security are both broken here in the US. Why is that? And what can be done about it? Arresting brown people in Arizona is sure not going to solve many problems.
