I’m a baseball fan and specifically, a fan of Vin Scully, announcer for the L.A. Dodgers. The Dodgers themselves, not so much but they are entertaining. Vin does his announcing alone, most of the time but the banter of sports announcers has to be familiar to almost anyone in the world. It could be futbol or cricket or jai alai but someone has to fill in the dull parts of the broadcast with some snappy patter.
I wanted to do a baseball strip (or three) but did not feel sure I could draw the action. Surprised myself, my little doodles of the players worked, in both this gag and the next two. I’m not saying they’re good, but they were better than I expected. Oh, for those who don’t know, a woodchuck is a kind of American marmot which means it is a large, fat, short-tailed ground squirrel. And a .319 lifetime batting average would be outstanding, possibly enough to get into the Hall of Fame. If they had a Hall of Fame for woodchucks.
